Rain in June?

As I sit here, drinking my second cup of coffee, I was trying to think of the last time that it had rained in June. Our normal June rainfall total is usually under a tenth of an inch. That is mostly from the fog or sometimes light drizzle that we may get. As I look out the window. It is raining very steadily. I would guess that through the last hour, we have received about a 1/4 inch of rain. I will probably sit in the patio and wire some trees. I am smiling because I won’t have to water the field grown trees next Monday. My father figured out that for every 1/4 inch of rain we receive, we do not have to water the field for a week. Let it rain, let it rain let it rain!
We have had such a weird weather pattern this year and last. Starting from last November, it was very mild. December was also mild. January was fairly normal followed by a cool February. February was fairly wet and we had 10 to 15 days straight of frost. March was fairly cool and April was normal except for a few very hot days in the 90’s. May was a little cool, but a few weekends ago the temps were again in the 90’s. First hot, then cold. The plants do not know what season it is from month to month. I had crabapples flower in the winter and the apples flowered last month. What will Mother Nature bring next? Is everyone else experiencing crazy weather? Let me know. George

Hello George,The weather is crazy up here also(Yosemite). We never get rain in June ,but for the past three days we have had some incredible lightning storms and close to an inch of rain.It was snowing in the high Sierra.I don't have to worry about watering my small collection of trees for a few days, but now I will have to weed whack my 8 acres all over again.I enjoyed the nice news piece.

  • Thanks for the update John.
